Pros
I am always very weary about installing new things, but i m so happy that I took a chance, it worked pretty well at first.. second time it failed to find some of the drivers it seemed to skip over them, but upon reboot, they apparently made it in the install somehow..
Cons
That it failed to find the CORRECT drivers a few different times, but it was a fairly easy removal as they put the uninstaller in the program main page and it was fine after that.
Summary
in general, i turned a vista home basic desktop into a windows small business server with much ease thanks to slim drivers, fix the installer bug, and i would be happy to upgrade to professional :

seems easy enough, not sure if it realy works though.
once selecting which drivers not to update, they still remain in the list. Such as chipsets for Intel which are not needed and have caused problems in the past

Runs quickly and efficiently, unlike myself.
All drivers in all areas scanned instead of multiple manual scans.
Took 2 minutes to find out that some of my drivers were almost 3 years behind, for un-techies like me, its a must have; really thought I was up to date.

Finds old drivers fast..
Downloading of drivers takes forever. It took me over an hour to download one driver on a 4Mbit connection.
Also, it downloads more than just drivers. It will also try to install bloatware.

Downloads more then just drivers. It also will grab the bloatware we all try to avoid.
Windows Update is all you need for most users. If you need more then Windows Update then you re the type of person already on top of your drivers and don t need this.
Found 7 updates. First one was for my Logitech Trackball mouse 4 yrs old it downloaded SetPoit, which is not drivers but the bloatware that gets bundled with your hardware. Next I tried SMBus update, again it downloaded ATI Catalyst Install Manager instead. I canceled both updates, after which SlimDrivers said I needed to reboot to complete install, so it does not really check that, it just pops up the generic message.
AVOID THIS SOFTWARE.

Hmmm, let s see it does just what it says it does. I have a relatively new PC, always keep everything up to date, except drivers. It found 13 out of date drivers. I updated just a couple at a time because I have found updating too many of anything all at once can cause problems.
I didn t find out about this program sooner.
TAKE THE TIME to do it right. Be patient, pay attention, follow instructions, and you ll get the job done. There will be subtle performance improvements - well worth the cost - actually worth paying for.

Easy to use,can pick which drivers you wish to update or leave as they are,free or paid for upgrade packages that are both excellent
Unless you have the paid version it is a timely process as you can only upgrade 1 at a time whereas with paid you can pick which ones and do all at 1 time,
Definately a great choice for people who want to get the most performance out of thier computer by having up to date drivers.Would recommend to friends,family,or anyone for that matter.Very easy to use so at very least worth trying out.

Nothing great about this product.
Your pc will become one instable mess.
Please read my summary.
It updated old drivers, 2 years old driver and driver is for a different sound controller.
My pc has a whole other sound controller.
Be carefull because it can make your system go very instable.
After slimdrivers updated audio driver and another driver that failed into interruption even though it was installed, my system became a mess.
Watching movies also became less fun because of certain hick-ups distortion in video s.
So i ve used the back-up system from slimdrivers and after restoring old drivers, the new drivers still remained in my system.
I had to manually delete everything that slimdrivers had installed, now my system runs better.
But slimdrivers still effects something in my system.
After deleting slimdrivers mistakes, i opened slimdrivers again to see how good the program is.
But it gave the message: no new drivers needed for your system because it s up-to-date. or something like that
That s bullcrap because there are no slimdriver drivers anymore.
So now i ve deleted all SlimWare Utilities programs from my computer.
Just left click on computer through start and right click on management. or something like that, in dutch it s beheren
Through here you can manually update everything for yourself.
But otherwise; just download the recommended drivers from windows update. but never select optional because also outdated drivers

And it s because of this program, trust me. I m keeping my pc clean all the time and now i have issues after slimdrivers.

Great marketing hook. Got me to download and try.
Nice friendly looking interface.
Finished installing the NVIDIA driver update after only 50 MINUTES. WOW. I m a sucker for efficiency so next my SigmaTel HD Audio driver. After 20 minutes the Install claims it is finished. Wow. I never even had to tell it to install. That s automatic. Maybe I ll try another, clicked do not restart my computer and it returned to SlimDriver which says it is still downloading. Waiting - is it frozen. Hold on, Slim s splash is covering the install update window. Click install.
Finished two upgrades in 2 hours and 10 minutes all the while staring at a Cylon like activity bar and banner ad encouraging me to upgrade: Tired of SPENDING HOURS updating your PC.
Does make me wonder if they added frustration time into the process just to persuade the upgrade;- grr.
Two drivers in 2 hours and 10 minutes with a high speed Internet connection. . . waiting, waiting, waiting. . . ad nauseum. Now will restart my computer and pray.
No telephone support. I think I know why.
NOT RECOMMENDED: Extremely dissatisfied: LOOOOOSER Freeware.. Totally failed to KNOCK MY SOCKS OFF - No incentive to uprade.
Hey SlimWare CTO, would your NASCAR brother drive a car this SLOW and lame. If this FREE version is any indication of your technology, I ll put my money elsewhere. Nothing but your marketing suggests that upgrading will produce better results. Your FREE product should knock my socks off; instead, it put me to sleep.
C mon. Give some VALUE indication of why anyone should update, eg: this update provides x,y,z benefits and will take xx minutes to complete. Maybe I do and maybe I don t care to spend the time required for the benefits provided. Who knows what they are unless you give some indication or there is a current problem.
Cnet, You have got to be kidding. Programs like this sacrifice trust. Certainly will not spend money on a product with such poor performance and only promises that the upgrade will be better.
Hey, Slim, how about giving customers a great and fast experience and then WoW. them with value added reasons to upgrade. Perhaps they will and then TRUST YOU enough to TRY your other products and BUY your upgrades.

Tried to install extra stuff I don t need and would had if I didn t choose it not to
Did not work for most of the drivers i wanted to update.
The product will freeze on you, if it can t finish the update. And, I had to end the program manual then.
At the install, it wanted to install an AVG tool bar and AVG software and make AVG my homepage. Of course, I didn t want that and told it not to do that. Then, I installed the actual product only on my computer.
I found that this product did find many drivers that needed to be updated, 15 to be exact. Then, I picked one and told it to update. It started to download the update. Then, open it and said it couldn t do it and failed error appeared. Okay, then it forze there. I hade to closed it by task manager.
After that I told it to scan again for drivers and picked another driver to update. Guess what. It couldn t update and forze again. Back to task manager.
I give it another shot with a different driver. This time, it manage to update 1 driver. Then, I picked another driver to update. Forze again and I gave up.
I turned to my system restore and just restored it back before I install this product - just to be safe this thing didn t try to do something else to my computer or had bad files or whatever written onto my compter.
I use Windows XP and this product didn t work for me. Thought it could find drivers that needed updating but it didn t and failed a bunch of times.

- Wasted half an hour in the office for me.
- Gave me a reason to come on here and rant a bit.
- Falsely reports out-dated drivers.
- Slimware forum shows lots of unhappy users who have had their O/S trashed by allowing this prog to update their drivers.
- Opens its own webpage every time you use it.
- Slimware apps claim to be portable but they all run installation routines, write to the registry, create /User/ folders etc.
I tried this out, it installed itself despite being supposedly portable along with the usual attempts to include a browser toolbar and hijack my homepage. AVG in this case.
It scans quickly but then lies to you. It told me that my GeForce Driver is 2 years old, when the NVidia app actually checks for updates itself so I know beyond doubt that the driver is just a couple of weeks old.
It reported most of my drivers as being out of date, but after the Geforce lie I didn t take a lot of notice.
I looked on the Slimware forum and found no end of complaints from users who allowed this app to update their drivers, and were then left with non-working hardware and crashing PCs.
Please remove this from your site, CNET, it s this kind of thing that gives you a bad name.
Updated on Mar 5, 2012 I discovered that once the prog is installed, you then get a Create Portable Version in the Settings tab. What s the point of that then.

Much promise, less delivery.

Good idea. Looks good. And it s free.
The overall look and feel of the GUI is not too complex, any medium experienced user of a computer can use it. The results after a scan for available updates might result in a long list and could be considered somewhat overwhelming at first.
The list is neatly categorized in different sections of your hardware that needs updated drivers.
There s a back-up option when you try to install the new drivers, please use this option at all times.
Within the program you can specify into which location on your computer back-up s should be stored. I.e. you could use an external hard drive for this to keep the back-up on another location instead of your system s hard drive.
Bad execution.
The available updates list can change over night. With no actual new drivers in it. It s more like a deja vu and makes one wonder if the previous updates were even installed in the first place.
Back-up and restore. Yeah, that would be nice. Unfortunately this doesn t work 100, which is needed. I had to redownload and reinstall some drivers for some of my hardware to get it working again. SlimDrivers made a mess of restoring.
It s free, but not free of ads. Nothing wrong with adds, but the way it s displayed was kind of annoying. Not a big problem, just annoying. Biggest problem is of course the malfunctioning of accurate restoring of drivers.
Promises a lot, and seems to deliver. But, it certainly fails on key components.
I wonder if it updated anything at all, I felt more like doing updates for the list in the program itself instead for my system. The list of available updates can change from 100 up to date to a list of driver updates that have already been installed i.e. same driver versions and version update dates.
I only found out it has updated my drivers after an attempt to restore them; SlimDrivers failed to restore some drivers, leaving a mess on my system.
A lesson learned; don t mess with programs that promises to do the work for you, always do it yourself.
Locks up my system

It s free - that s about it.
After half an hour it still hadn t completed the system scan. And this is on a five month old LAPTOP - it s not like it s ancient and using legacy hardware. I haven t installed a bunch of cards in expansion slots since there are none nor have I installed additional hardware since there isn t a lot of room for it.
I m grateful I ve installed Program Explorer as my default Task Manager. It actually kills a program when you tell it to.
I m running Win 7 Pro, 64 bit version.
Fixed everything, had 43 outdated driversfixed.

Really works, checked my drivers manually to make sure it wasn t some sort of scam program. On install, click Custom and disable the toolbar and other additional software if you don t want it installed. My computer no longer crashes and freezes. At first I thought it would take forever to update each one, but a lot of them were sub drivers, and so I updated everything within 30 minutes. First review I have ever taken the time to write, that is saying something.
Can t update all at once, although I think the upgrade version allows this.

Sometimes, the scan wants to install older driers than you have installed.
I d look elsewhere for driver updates. I tried to install the 2.2.18283 both from here and the product website, but got an error: avgAF5.tmp.exe has encountered a problem.

Does as adevertised, finds good drivers, backs up to restore point in case there is a problem. For me it found 6 drivers for updated HP dv2120 with windows 7 installed. insatlled each driver with back up and no issues.

Free, finds some drivers that you never think about updating.
Sometimes finds drivers that are older than what you currently have, mostly Intel drivers for me. But I get a warning that the driver is older than my current one. I think this is just a matter of a data base being a bit out of date.
Over all a very good program, but like anything else, do a backup - restore point first.

Effective, accurate, and easy to use.
None whatsoever. But bear in mind different companies products may have varying installation requirements - the program will walk you through it. Also, during installation updates it will offer to install the AVG toolbar change your homepage default search-engine to AVG Secure Search, so be sure to uncheck those boxes if you don t want them.
I ve tried similar programs, but the excellent software from SlimWare never fails to impress. Be sure to check out their outstanding SlimCleaner,also. If you ve ever had to reinstall your Operating System, especially using recovery media that only restore it to it s out-of-box-condition, you ll know what a pain it is locating and installing the necessary drivers. SlimDrivers makes it a breeze. With multiple drivers from the same company, such as those from Intel, it supports batch installs. Sweet. For keeping your present system up to date, run it as often as you re comfortable with I run mine every 3 or 4 weeks, or whenever you feel you might have a driver-related problem. It does the rest. No problems at all after I updated six drivers
Takes a long time to download some of the new drivers
I installed each driver one-at-a-time every couple of hours, using their automatic back-up for each one. I had to restart for four of the six new drivers after they were installed. There were no problems at all.

to many to count.. honestly, were do i start. honest,free, easy to use, light weight, stable, correctly installs drivers, cloud services umm asks to creates a restore point that works., you can set it up so it doesnt open on pc start up. i missed alot of great things like i said, to many to count. OH.. and it has a support staff that will get back to you in 48 hrs or less, like omg..

A computer expert friend reccomended this.
I can t use the damn product, without rating it first. That s no way to get good ratings.
I hate products that want you to rate them BEFORE you can USE them. This F king sucks.

It s perhaps one of the best drivers up-daters available.
It tried to update the drivers for my integrated audio hardware, and the updated drivers didn t work.
Sometimes the newest drivers aren t the best ones for your system -- some computers will only accept a certain range of driver versions for its integrated parts. The best advice is to check with your computer s manufacturer to see exactly WHAT version s of your drivers will work with YOUR computer.
All in all, this is a useful system utility for updating drivers for hardware that is NOT integrated, but it still needs a little work to be classified as a must-have.

In fact it did find some outdated drivers on my system.It also came up with an update for my chipsetthe only problem was the update was an older version than the one i already had.
That s why the rating is only 4.5
Fine as a free version, but it needs some update for the software itself.
After all..you can t blame the softwareguys for this it is for free.
